Who am i

The Artist's Journey

Born in St. Vincent and raised in the vibrant landscapes of Trinidad and Tobago, I have always been deeply drawn to the saturated colors and dynamic textures of the natural world. My journey led me from the Caribbean to the snowy prairies of Winnipeg, where I pursued an academic foundation in Environmental Design, specializing in Landscape Architecture at the University of Manitoba.

This formal training taught me to observe and appreciate the intricate relationships within our surroundings, instilling in me a core philosophy: that profound beauty can be found anywhere—even within the rhythms of the mundane or the structure of the everyday landscape.

By day, my life is a vibrant canvas of family logistics as a dedicated wife and mother to five children. By night, guided by studio lights, I translate this busy world into art.

Artistic Philosophy & Process

My current body of work is a dynamic fusion of my Caribbean heritage and my Canadian influences, reflecting the inherent beauty and quiet wonder that surround us daily.

I explore these themes primarily through acrylic and watercolor painting, employing a highly contemporary and expressive style. My approach is defined by the deliberate and often surprising use of color in two distinct veins:

The Isolated Subject

A signature element in some of my work is the isolation of subjects—such as a figure or an animal—against a single, saturated field of color, like a penguin set against a striking fuchsia background. This technique removes the subject from its expected habitat and places emphasis purely on form, texture, and the intense dialogue between contrasting hues.

The Expressive Landscape

In other pieces, I incorporate the same vibrant approach when painting landscapes. I use highly saturated, colors to depict natural environments, pushing the boundaries of realism. This style captures the energy and emotion of a place rather than a realistic representation.

The Evolving Palette

My experience of the world is defined by color. With an intensely visual perception, I am often consumed by an undeniable urge to capture a specific hue on canvas. As an evolving artist, my practice is a journey of discovery. The styles and subjects in this collection may shift and change as I experiment, grow, and follow my vibrant intuition.
